Course contents : An introduction to the problem-based learning. The following points will be approached. The teaching programme concerning medical studies at the University of Liège. The renewal of teaching. Group dynamics. Organising training in the problem-based learning. Organising student tasks in sessions around PBL. The tools used (student course books, teacher course books). Assessing the techniques of problem-based learning.

Small group workshops will allow students to analyse group dynamics and specific examples of problem-based learning.
Course objective : The seminars are aimed at explaining teaching organised in modules, focused on an anatomical system and using problem-based learning, complemented by introductory courses, in-depth courses and revision courses.

By looking at clinical problems, slanted towards pathological and physiopathological aspects, students will look at the embryonic development, anatomy, histology, physiology and biochemistry of cardiovascular, respiratory, urinary, haematological and cutaneous systems, establishing each time, where possible, structure-activity relationships. All aspects are examined in an integrated way.

These different aspects will also be approached through practical work looking, at histology, anatomy, physiology and biochemistry (registering studies, curve analysis).

The principal objectives of problem-based learning are: maximise training conditions, stimulate motivation, and encourage and back-up autonomy.
Organization : One whole day at the beginning of the second term. Many module teachers will participate.
Written notes : Notes concerning the day's schedule and explaining some of the notions will be distributed at the beginning of the day.
