| Course contents :
| This cursus of ten lessons gives an actualised insight into developmental biology, since gametogenesis until birth. Rather than referring to descriptive comparative embryology, the cursus describes the progressive acquisition of knowledge into mechanisms of cell differentiation gained through both well-established experimental models (nematode, drosophila, xenopus, zebrafish, mouse and human), as well as recent technological tools (transgenesis, targeted gene deletion). The cursus also tries to identify the real place of embryology and development (ontogeny) in the global context of species evolution (phylogeny). In close relationship with research themes of the laboratory, a particular attention will be given to embryo implantation, as well as to the program of T-cell differentiation in the thymus and intrathymic establishment of central immune self-tolerance. The cursus finally presents biomedical consequences of the progress in our knowledge of developmental biology. | |

| Course objective :
| 1. To understand molecular mechanisms underlying cell differentiation from the unique conceptus. 2. To make appear the great principles of life unicity despite the extreme diversity and complexity of living forms. | |
| | | |
| Prerequisites :
| Basic cell biology and histology. Bases of molecular biology. | |
| | | |
| Organization :
| Theory: ten lessons of 90 minutes during the first semester. Practice: ten afternoons of two weeks during the first semester. | |
| | | |
| Written notes :
| One complete syllabus is available at Press of Biology Circle. It will be completed by some notes given during the lessons.
