AERO0016-3

Aeroelasticity

Duration :20h Th
Credits/ECTS :
4th year of the 5 year degree in civil engineering in electromechanics (aerospace)3,5
Holder(s) :Laurent Stainier
Course contents :
  • General introduction to aeroelastic phenomenae
  • Static aeroelasticity: typical section concept, divergence, control surface efficiency.
  • Dynamic aeroelasticity: unsteady aerodynamics and the Theodorsen function, flutter and solution methods.
Course objective : This course provides an introduction to aeroelasticity. It focuses more particularly on the main aeroelastic phenomenae (divergence, flutter, command inversion, lift redistribution) and describes the main semi-analytical solution methods used in linear aeroelasticity.
Prerequisites :
  • Introductory course in aerodynamics.
  • Introductory course in structural dynamics.
Workshops : Topics developped in class will be applied through an integrated exercise (AERO0019-1) aiming at the design of an airplane wing.
Written notes : Class notes will be available online through MyULg.
Assessment : Oral exam.
