Evolution of the Sociological Thought (Analysis of the Founding Texts)

Course contents : Give an outline of historic and social conditions of constitution of sociology. Present the evolution of the sociological conceptions of the "founder fathers " (St Simon, Compte, Durkheim, Simmel, Pareto, Weber) as well as a biographic note. The contribution of each of the authors will be analysed on the basis of its main works and theoretical concepts which it developed.

Organization : Ex—cathedra lectures
Written notes : notes will be given to the students.
Assessment : Oral examination composed as follows:
1. By heart restitution (the list of the questions will be given to the students at the end of the course);
2. Comment of a text extract written by one of the authors approached within the scope of the course: the student will have to identify the author of the text and comment this text on the basis of elements approached during the lectures.
