Course contents : Computer simulation of the kinematics and dynamics of mechanical systems with flexible components : theory of rigid body kinematics (matrix formalism, methods for representation of finite rotations, computation of instantaneous positions, velocities and accelerations through incremental procedure) – description of kinematic joints – modeling of flexible members (beams) – substructuring techniques – computational methods for kinematic and dynamic analysis – Application to problems from automotive design, aeronautics and space technology.
Course objective : Introduction of the student to the modern methods of analysis and computer simulation of articulated mechanical systems , taking into account the structural deformation of the system components through finite element modelling.
The proposed methodology has application in engineering offices for automotive design (e.g. power train, suspension) , airplane design (e.g. flaps, landing gears) and space technologies (e.g. deployable structures).
