MATH0216-1

Functional and Numerical Analysis

Duration :30h Th, 10h Pr
Credits/ECTS :
1st "licence" in mathematical sciences6,5
Holder(s) :Jean Schmets
Course contents : In the first two years of studies the analysis course deals first with euclidean spaces then with spaces of continuous or differentiable functions or of functions of integrable p-th power. However these spaces are not sufficient for the needs of applications to for instance the solution of partial differential equations. The aim of this course is to develop powerful means to study and use locally convex spaces and continuous lienear maps in between them.
Course objective : Initiation of the students to functional analysis.
Prerequisites : None for a student of the licence degree.
Workshops : These works are organized by the assistants. They deal with ewplanations about the theory and exercises.
Organization : The course takes place during the first semester.
Written notes : Notes are available at the beginning of the course. They contain numerous references.
Assessment : The examination is oral; it may contain a written part dedicated to exercises.
