MATH0206-2

Mathematical analysis(2nd part) (introduction to functional spac)

Duration :30h Th, 15h Pr
Credits/ECTS :
2nd "candidature" in mathematical sciences5
Holder(s) :Jean Schmets
Course contents : The theory starts with the introduction of the spaces of the functions which are integrable, square integrable or bounded almost everywhere. Then the notions of convolution product, Fourier transform, Laplace transform and of classical orthonormal families (Fourier trigonometric functions, Legendre polynomials, Laguerre functions and Hermite functions) are introduced. The applications are dealt with during the exercises hours, they receive great importance.
Course objective : The course deals with some useful techniques based on the spaces of integrable or square integrable functions.
Prerequisites : This course of analysis makes deep use of the one of the first year.
Workshops : The assistants organize these works. They consist in explanations on the theory developed in the course and in exercises solved by the assistants or by the students.
One written interrogation is organized; its result is important but is incorporated in the final mark only if it is favourable to the student.
Organization : The official timetable for the course and the works is handed to the students at the beginning of the academic year.
Written notes : Course: Analyse mathématique : Introduction aux espaces fonctionnels, J. Schmets.
These notes are available at the beginning of the course.
Exercises: Exercices d'analyse mathématique, Notes du cours de la seconde candidature en sciences mathématiques et en sciences physiques, F. Bastin - J.P. Schneiders.
These notes are available at the beginning of the works.
Numerous references are indicated during the course and in the notes.
Assessment : One written interrogation is organized during the academic year. Its result is posted and incorporated in the final mark only if it is favourable to the student.
The examination holds at the same time:
a) an oral examination on the theory;
b) a written examination on the exercises. During this written examination, the students may have at their disposal the notes of the course as well as the notes of the course " Introduction au calcul intégral " of the first year.
