| Course contents :
| We shall be reading four plays by William Shakespeare: The Merchant of Venice, All is Well that Ends Well, Measure for Measure and Troilus and Cressida. | |

| Course objective :
| Quite beside the task (and the pleasure) of reading four particularly interesting and complex plays by Shakespeare, we shall try to determine why they are traditionally classified as "problem plays." Given this rather general outlook, the course can also be seen as an introduction to Shakespeare's work as a whole. | |
