Course contents : We shall be reading four plays by William Shakespeare: The Merchant of Venice, All is Well that Ends Well, Measure for Measure and Troilus and Cressida.
Course objective : Quite beside the task (and the pleasure) of reading four particularly interesting and complex plays by Shakespeare, we shall try to determine why they are traditionally classified as "problem plays." Given this rather general outlook, the course can also be seen as an introduction to Shakespeare's work as a whole.
Prerequisites : A good command of English

Organization : The course will be organized in the second semester (May-June 2005).
Written notes : Not available
Assessment : The students will be expected to hand in a paper at the end of the course; then an oral examination will also be organized (May/June).
