Exercises in Greek I

Duration :30h Th, 60h Pr
Credits/ECTS :
1st year of a Bachelor's degree in ancient languages and literatures, classical orientation9
Holder(s) :Paul Wathelet
Course contents : Reading of Greek Attic texts in extracts taken from the best authors. These extracts are always situated in their context within the work and in their socio-cultural mood. Texts reading allows a practical revision of the grammatical uses and the study of peculiar syntactical expressions.

The problem is made difficult by the fact that some students have learned some ancient Greek in the secondary school and others have never studied it. In the beginning at least, the classes are not homogenous.

Organization : How long? 30 h + 60 h - 1st and 2nd semester.
Where and when? Main building, pl. du XX Août, classroom 3/24 (3rd floor), thursday from 9 to 12.
How? Personal work, questions and answers, interrogations at he University, exercices to be done at home.
The students have also to prepare, for the year's end, the reading of a classical greek work imponed by the professor (cursive).
Written notes : The students have to use:
J.-M Renaud-P. Wathelet, Autonoos, Le grec ancien pour grands débutants, Liège, C.I.P.L., 2003, 2 vol. (to be bought at the Classical section's secretaryship, main building, 3rd floor, from 9 to 12 on a weekday).
