Course contents : The course is structured as follows:
- Evolution of informatics and telematics
- Basics of hardware
- Basics of software
- Word processing and spreadsheet
- Database management systems (DBMS)
- Expert systems
- Email and Internet
- Health information theory
- Haelthcare electronic ID cards
- Pharmacy information management systems (PIMS)
Course objective : - To teach pharmacy students about the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) of the 21st century
- To emphasise the potentialities but also the limitations of computer systems
- To prepare students to pharmacy information management systems (PIMS) and their daily functionalities
Prerequisites : None
Workshops : In practical sessions, students will be shown how to use common application software products like WORD, EXCEL or ACCESS as well as email and Internet. Furthermore, actual demonstrations of pharmacy information and management systems will be carried out by an experienced pharmacist. The course will end up with a visit to one of the major pharmacy information management systems providers.
Organization : Courses will be given during the first quadrimester and the visit to the pharmacy information management system (PIMS) provider will be made early January.
Written notes : There are no lecture notes but students will receive a copy of the slides that are used throughout the course.

Assessment : There will be a written exam to evaluate the student's knowledge of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), software packages and pharmacy information and management systems (PIMS)
