Course contents : Partim : Chemical and biological sensors for water (1 UA including 6 hours of TP)
Contents:
-Measurement of electrical conductivity
-Electrochemical Sensors (potentiometric and amperometric)
-Selective Probes
-Local or mobile automatic measurement sations
-Biosensors
-Applications in the aquatic environment

Partim : Bioindicators (1 UA including 6 hours of TP)
Contents:
-Definition, objectives and reliability of the bioindicators
-Methodology of observation and complementarity with the physicochemical indicators
-Major bioindicators of environmental quality

Partim : Thermal evaluation methods (1 UA including 6 hours of TP)
Contents :
(The lecture concerns measurements and evaluation methods in indoor environment)
-Measurement sensors (temperature, heat flux, flowmeters, measurements of thermal comfort, lighting...)
-Other methods of investigation: audits, simulation models...
-Practical work: demonstration of indoor environmental measures

Partim : Meteorological instruments (1 UA including 6 hours of TP) Contents:
(The lecture concerns measurements and evaluation methods in outdoor environment)
-"traditional" sensors: temperature, pressure, radiation, rain gauge, relative humidity
-special instruments (visibility, evaporation...) and other methods of investigation (forecasting models...)
-practical work: demonstration of operation and use of a weather station

Partim : Measure of the noise annoyance (1 UA including 6 hours of TP)
Contents:
-Definition of the noise and the scales of measurement
-Sonometer and accessories, definition of the measured variables, techniques of expert assessment
-Interpretation of the measurement results
-Models of noise annoyance forecasting

Partim : Measure of odour annoyance (1 UA including 6 hours of TP)
Contents:
-Nature of odour, qualitative and quantitative characterization of the environmental odours
-Interpretation of the measurement results
-Atmospheric dispersion modeling, concepts of stability classes

Partim : Measure of air pollution (1 UA including 6 hours of TP)
Contents:
-Sampling of air and dust
-Instruments for gas measurement: field and laboratory

Partim : Hydrogeology instruments (1 UA including 6 hours of TP)
Contents:
-Measurement of water level, speed, flow
-Measurement of moisture, water content and permeability of the soil
-Applications to the aquatic environment
-Model of pollutant dispersion in the soil

Partim : Teledetection (1 UA including 6 hours of TP)

Partim : Measure of ionizing and non-ionizing radiations (1 UA including 6 hours of TP) Contents:
-Ionizing Radiations:
-Recall of the problems of ionizing radiations (sources, impacts
-Recall of the various types of radiations and their interaction with the matter
-Various types of detectors and their use practises (gas detectors, scintillators, semiconductors, dosimetry)
-Présentation and interpretation of measurement results

-Non-ionizing Radiations :
-Recall of the problems: sources (high voltage lines, antennas, electrical appliances)
-Physical and biological effects
-Recall of the various types of electromagnetic radiations
-Various methods of measurement: measure of electric and magnetic fields
Course objective : -Providing a range of means of environmental data-gathering:
sensors, instruments, models...
-Briefly describing the fundamental principles
-Insisting on the advantages, disadvantages, problems
related to the practical use of the various methods
-Leading the student to acquire a critical approach of the method use and of result interpretation, more than to providing him an exhaustive
list of all the possible methods
Prerequisites : Some knowledge in physics and chemistry
Workshops : 6 hours of pratical work for each partim
Organization : in February, March by 3 hours-modules
Written notes : Available for most partims
Assessment : Depending on the partim
