Biochemical and Physiological Aspects of the Digestive System

Course contents : 1. Models for studying physiology and biochemistry of the digestive system (cell culture, organites, intercellular problem)
2. Molecular mechanism of intracellular transfers and excretion of digestive enzymes and mucus proteins.
3. Molecular mechanisms of ion secretion and absorption by the digestive system (H+, HCO3-, Na+, K+, Cl-,Ca++, aminoacids)
4. Molecular mechanisms of secretion activation of digestive enzymes, of gastro-intestinal hormones and of ion secretion (H+, HCO3-, Na+, K+, Cl-)
5. Receptors related to secretions observed in the digestive tract.
6. Macromolecule transfers across the intestinal mucosa
7. Growth and development of the digestive system
8. Regeneration of the intestinal and gastric mucosa
9. Immune and digestive systems
10. Food intolerance and allergy
11. Pre-probiotics
12. Apoptosis in the digestive system.

All the cited chapters are not approached. They are given following the students' interest
Course objective : Analysis of physiological and biochemical aspects of the digestive system not approached in other courses. Integration in the knowledge of nutritional problems. Criticisms of the literature data.
Prerequisites : General biochemistry, general physiology, human biochemistry, human physiology
