Chemical Engineering of Polyphase Systems

Course contents : Multiphased reactors classification, Methodology, spatial and temporal scales, hydronamical regime. Differential reactors,heat and mass transfer, internal, external, coupling, global efficiency. Gas-liquid-solid bubble columns: description,hydrodynamical regimes, modelisation, transfer parameter estimations. Gas-liquid-solid mechanically agitated slurry reactors: description, hydrodynamical regimes, modelisation, transfer parameter estimations. Trickle-bed reactors: desctiption, hydrodynamical regimes, wetting, modelisation, transfer parameter estimations. Introduction to numerical methods: ordinary diffential equations, partial differential equations, orthogonal collocation.
Course objective : Application of the Chemical Reaction Engineering methods to the complex situations occurring in the description of multiphased reactors
Prerequisites : CHIM0012-1 Chemical kinetics, CHIM0023-1 Chemical Engineering (reactors), CHIM0024-1 Applied Physical Chemistry
Workshops : In small groups, it consists in a quatitative explanation of results coming from the Chemical Engineering literature
