Durée :30h Th, 15h Pr
ECTS :
2e licence en sciences économiques5
2ème année de la maîtrise en sciences économiques5
Titulaire(s) :Alain Jousten
Aperçu général :The course starts with a quick refresher on the balance of payment. In a second step the link between money, the interest rate and exchange rates is explored. Our analysis will tackle issues both in the short and the long run, respectively analyzing the interactions between output and exchange rates, and between prices and the exchange rates. Other topics studied are fixed and floating exchange rate systems and their implications for macroeconomic policy, optimum currency areas. Real-world applications to the case of the EMU and developing countries will also be given.
Objectif du cours :The course examines the importance of macroeconomic analysis for understanding international economic relations. The models used in the different lectures are complemented by real world examples, case studies and exercises. The main aim of the course is to provide the student with a good understanding of events in international economics, such as currency devaluations, the role of the central banks in international monetary flows and in exchange rate fluctuations,...
Pré-requis : Introduction à la macroéconomie
Organisation :Lectures.
Notes de cours :· The course is essentially based on the second half (Parts 3 and 4) of the textbook " International Economics, Theory and Policy " (fourth edition) by Paul Krugman and Maurice Obstfeld, Addison Wesley Publishers. The book should be available in a good university bookshop or via the Internet (amazon,...)· Other good reference books in macroeconomics, although less explicitly " international " are the well-known " Macroeconomics ", by R. Dornbusch and S. Fischer as well as the more recent " Macroeconomics " by O. Blanchard (Prentice Hall 1997).
- I would also recommend you to read newsmagazines such as, for example, The Economist. You should particularly pay attention to their coverage of problems or issues that have recently arisen in international macroeconomics (the Russian currency crisis may serve as an example).
Evaluation :Grading will be based on the final exam. The exam will be written and will take place during the regular exam session in Winter.
